Back To School and Wasps
It’s that time of year when we start thinking about back to school. The hustle and bustle of registration, new clothes, haircuts, meet the teacher, sports physicals and WASPS. Okay, maybe you aren’t thinking about them. However, they are busy preparing this time of year too. Treating wasps seasonally and especially at the end of summer and early fall can have a positive impact on wasp populations on your property in the spring.
Wasp Colonies
From late summer to early fall wasp colonies are producing males and female queen wasps are being created in the their nests. The male will do his part to fertilize the female queens and then die off for the winter. The fertilized queens will seek shelter late fall and early winter in places like under tree bark, cracks and crevices, under roof lines and in attics. Though wasps typically reemerge in spring it is not uncommon to see the occasional wasp when we have one of our Texas famous 80 degree day in December.
Are they Safe?
They are be difficult to control and can pose a threat to those who might come into contact with their nests or a flying wasps. They can inflict painful irritating stings that can cause mild to sever discomfort and pain. They pose a serious threat to the health and safety of those who are allergic.
